Like a lot of people around this part of Utah (or ANY part of Utah for that matter) I sometimes make a run for the border to play the lottery.  Powerball, Megamillions or even some of the other games with smaller jackpots.  Years ago when the jackpot was over $500 million, I sent out a note to my co-workers telling them I was “making a lottery run” and offering them a chance to join the pool for $20.  Well, when 30 co-workers joined the fun, it was a weird moment of my life telling the clerk, “I need $600 worth of quick-picks”.

But this all started with my grandparents who ran a bakery in Marine, Illinois.  People always commented on their incredible luck as they’d win a quilt, a color TV, fishing gear and more but my grandpa would ask, “Did you have a ticket on that?”   When they would answer no, it was obvious to see why they hadn’t WON anything.

Years ago, my mom had found an old lottery ticket that had fallen out of my grandmother’s prayer book.  She looked at the numbers to see if she could figure out where these numbers came from but there was no rhyme or reason to any of them.  Both my mother and grandmother passed away years ago but I still have that ticket and still play those numbers now and then.

In addition to the Beaver Dam Music festival, playing the lottery is one of the better reasons to go to Beaver Dam.  Be ready because the radio reception goes away in those huge rock canyons and cell service is gone, but to become a gazillionaire, it might be worth it someday.   There are a few other reasons to go to Beaver Dam. Don't these sound tasty?
